Imagine sitting on a hard chair outside of your examination room waiting to be called in to your final oral defense. During your wait, your committee is reading reports of your work and preparing to examine you.
You have around you four doors marked ‘To the Garden’, ‘To the Chapel’, ‘Candidate’s Washroom’ and ‘Examination Room’. Your choices are to run, to pray…. You get the picture. Fortunately the thesis defense, while nerve wracking and intimidating, is much more humane than was the case when this author defended her thesis. Luckily I did choose to enter the examination room door.
